Venetoclax Yields Strong Responses in CLL.
Results from an international phase II study show that the investigational BCL2 inhibitor venetoclax is effective in patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia and the chromosome 17p deletion, whose prognosis is particularly poor. Venetoclax yielded high and durable responses in this population, including several complete remissions.

18 NOVEMBER 2016 • VOL 354 ISSUE 6314 817 I n 2010, a comparison between the genomes of a Neandertal and people today settled what anthropologists and geneticists had debated for decades: Our ancestors had indeed mated with their archaic cousins, producing hybrid children. They, in turn, had mated with other modern humans, leaving their distant descendants—us—with a permanent Neandertal legacy....

ence in the productivity of the vegetation on the control plots. Odum et al. (2) observed comparable differences in productivity during old field succession, but these were attributable to previous fertilization and changes in the growth forms of the dominants, factors not adequately discussed by Hurd et al. We have also observed significant differences in the primary production of herbaceous c...
متن کاملShaking the tree: mapping complex disease genes with linkage disequilibrium.
Much effort and expense are being spent internationally to detect genetic polymorphisms contributing to susceptibility to complex human disease. Concomitantly, the technology for detecting and genotyping single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) has undergone rapid development, yielding extensive catalogues of these polymorphisms across the genome. Population-based maps of the correlations amongst...
متن کاملShaking the Tree: An Agency-Theoretic Model of Asset Pricing
In this paper, we develop an agency-theoretic extension of the Lucas asset pricing model and examine the resulting asset price dynamics. In the model, an agent of the firm can expand or contract the firm’s output and dividend payments in response to exogenous shocks, although expansions become increasingly costly for the agent to maintain. Analysis of numerical simulations shows that the time-s...
